Ajmer, November 30, 2011: Nikon India, the 100% subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, leaders in imaging technology, inaugurated its first COOLPIX zone in the city today. The COOLPIX Zone gives access to the entire range of Nikon COOLPIX cameras and select range of D-SLR cameras to the customers and gives them an opportunity to ‘touch, feel and experience’ the world-class products before they make a purchase decision. The company has adopted the shop-in-shop retail concept to reach out to its growing customer base.

The zone was inaugurated by Mr. Hiroshi Takashina, Managing Director, Nikon India. Other senior members from the Nikon India headquarters were also present to grace the occasion.

At the inauguration of the Zone, Mr. Hiroshi Takashina, Managing Director, Nikon India said, “The digital imaging industry has seen exponential growth over the past few years. Suhasi Dhami, who’s character “Abha” in Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kehli became a house hold name, will be seen in a new avtaar on the show. Suhasi is all set to play a Rajasthani girl named “Albeli”. With the way the show’s story is developing, Albeli is going to be an integral part of the show. Suhasi expresses her immense joy of getting to do a variation and says, “I am feeling the same jitters as one does when starting a new project. Abha was so much into my system that it had become a routine for me. I would behave like Abha sometimes in my personal life too. And with Albeli’s charachter, its like your brain has started working again. So to get “Abha”out of my system and to take in a new character is challenging. I thank Rajshri and Zee team to give me this opportunity. ” Albeli’s character is that of a Rajasthani dancer, a rural woman with a typical style of talking. Suhasi says, “I am trying to learn Marwari. its not an easy language. Usually when we speak in Hindi or English, its easy to twist the language a little and still maintain the meaning. But now thats not possible.” Suhasi is all geared up to play her new charachter with perfection for which she experimented with different looks with the creative team of the show before freezing on the look. Chennai: Coromandel Wind Energy Limited (CWE), a Chennai head-quartered wind energy IPP, has signed an agreement with India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer – Suzlon Group for its maiden wind power project. The project will comprise of 36 units of Suzlon’s new S97 – 2.1 MW wind turbine generators and shall be commissioned in FY 2012-13.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply, set up, operate and maintain a 75.6 MW wind power project for Coromandel Wind Energy in the state of Rajasthan. The deal is valued at nearly Rs 470 crore.

Speaking from London, Dr Arun Subbiah, Director, CWE said: “The company has been set up to be a preferred investment vehicle for foreign and local investors targeting the booming energy sector in India. The company plans to list on a recognized exchange either in India or London at the appropriate time and expect to achieve a market capitalization in excess of $250 million by 2014. This is only the beginning of CWE’s plans to be one of India’s leading clean energy IPP and become a 1000 MW scale company in this sector. We are sure our relationship with Suzlon will be one step towards achieving this.”

Karl Slym moves to GM’s largest operations as Executive Vice President of SAIC-GM-Wuling in China


New Delhi: Lowell Paddock has been appointed President and Managing Director of General Motors India, effective January 1, 2012. He will succeed Karl Slym, who moves to GM’s largest operations in China as Executive Vice President of SAIC and Wuling Motors, which manufactures a growing lineup of mini-commercial vehicles and passenger cars.
Based at GM India’s headquarters in Gurgaon, Paddock will oversee GM’s operations across India, including its manufacturing facilities in Halol, Gujarat, and Talegaon, Maharashtra, as well as its joint venture with Chinese automaker SAIC.
“We are pleased to have someone with Lowell’s vast experience heading our rapidly expanding operations and the growth of the Chevrolet brand in one of the world’s most important vehicle markets,” said GM International Operations (GMIO) President Tim Lee. “His background provides a perfect fit with what we aim to accomplish in India.”
Paddock has held several important posts in product planning and program management in his home country of the United States, Europe and Asia since joining General Motors in 1992. His previous positions include Director of Portfolio Planning at GM Europe, Vice President of Planning at GM Asia Pacific, and Executive Director of Planning and Program Management at GM’s Shanghai GM joint venture in China.
Since September 1, 2009, Paddock has served as GMIO Vice President of Program Management and Planning, where he has had oversight of GM’s product lineup in Asia Pacific, Africa, the Middle East, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. He also serves on the Boards of Directors of the GM-AvtoVAZ joint venture and GM Korea.
Karl has held the post of President and Managing Director of GM India since October 1, 2007. “We thank Karl for his important contribution in India in improving market share, launching successful products like Cruze and Beat, commissioning the new car manufacturing and engine plants and expanding the dealer and supplier footprints, said Tim Lee. Karl has played a key role in the growth of GM’s business and helped the company emerge as the 5th largest automobile manufacturer in India during his tenure. He has put GM in a strong position for continued success in a market that we have made a global priority,” added Lee.

● GAIL places its fourth order with Suzlon, to be commissioned in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
● GAIL’s total wind power capacity with Suzlon will exceed 67 MW


Pune: Suzlon Energy Limited, the world’s fifth largest* wind turbine supplier, has announced its fourth consecutive order from GAIL – Asia’s number one and the world’s number two gas utility company, and one the ‘Navratna’ public sector undertakings (PSU) of the Government of India. The order consists of 11 units of Suzlon’s S88 – 2.1 MW wind turbines, to be commissioned in the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka by the end of the financial year 2011–12.

This is GAIL’s fourth order with Suzlon, with first two projects located in Gujarat. The first 4.5 MW project, comprising Suzlon’s S82 – 1.5MW turbines, was commissioned in March 2010, and the second 14.7 MW project is currently under execution. A part of these projects is meant to fulfill GAIL’s captive power requirement, with the remainder for power sales to the respective local power distribution utilities. The sale of the power generated to the local power distribution utilities will be under the long term purchase power agreement (PPA) at the fixed preferential feed–in tariff.
