Patna Station gets Google Powered free high-speed public Wi-Fi service by Railtel
Service also goes live at stations in Jaipur, Guwahati, Ujjain and Allahabad taking total number to 15 stations across India
Google powered Wi-Fi service will also be rolled out to cover key suburban Mumbai stations
Bihar, 2016: Continuing with its project to provide high-speed public Wi-Fi service at 100 Railway stations across India by end of the year, Google today announced the launch of free high-speed public Wi-Fi service at Patna Railway Station in Bihar.
Additionally, the service also goes live in Jaipur, Ujjain, Guwahati and Allahabad Railway stations.
Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh PrabhakarPrabhu will formally inaugurate the service at these new stations soon. Google has been deploying the service over the extensive fiber network of Indian Railway’s arm Railtel which provides Internet services as RailWire. With these launches, the service is now live and available to users at 15 stations across the country.
Backed by the phenomenal response to the service in Mumbai Central, Google will also extend the project to cover key suburban Mumbai stations working with RailTel. Google will deploy the service in Dadar, Bandra Terminus, Churchgate, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vashi, Kurla, ChattrapatiShivaji Terminus, and Borivali and few others.
“We’re seeing incredible usage of the Wi-Fi service across the stations and over 2.5 lakhs users are using the service every week, demonstrating more than 2x growth in less than a month. Backed by this response, Railtel and the Ministry of Railways has decided to extend the project to cover key suburban stations in Mumbai as well. The service is now live across 15 stations covering key corners of the country from Pune to Guwahati, and from Ernakulam to Jaipur. Our roll out schedule is on track and we are confident of providing the service across 100 stations in India by end of this year. ” said Gulzar Azad, Head of Access Programs, Google India.
The Wi-Fi service built over the fiber network of Railtel is designed to offer high speed broadband experience to users. Each station has been equipped with Gigabit fiber backhaul and will be further upgraded based on the usage. Travelers passing through these stations will now be able to easily stream a high definition video while they’re waiting, research their destination, download a book or a new game for their journey. Google is committed to working with Indian Railways and Railtel to deliver high-speed Wi-Fi network that will be available to 10 million Indians a day by the end of the year, covering 100 of the busiest train stations in India. The project will be eventually rolled out to cover 400 train stations across India.
The Railtel Google free high-speed public Wi-Fi service is currently available at Mumbai Central, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda, ErnakulamJn, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati, Ujjain and Allahabad.
